The Support Team Behind Your Phone System: Local, 24/7 and Able to Fix It

Written by Everett Kildare · Aug 15, 2026 · 7 min read

Every provider says they have good support. The question that separates them is narrower and easier to test: when something breaks, can the person who answers the phone actually change anything?

For a reseller the honest answer is no. They can open a ticket with the network that carries your calls and wait, the same as you. WOCOM is a licensed Jamaican carrier operating its own network, so the support team is looking at the system your calls are running on — which is the difference between “we have logged it” and “we can see it, we are on it.”

Who actually answers

A Jamaican team, on an 876 number, in your time zone. That sounds like a small thing until you have spent a working day queuing for a support centre that opens as your office is closing, explaining your setup to somebody who has never heard of Half Way Tree.

The team runs 24/7, because phone systems do not fail politely inside business hours. The calls that matter most — a line down before a Monday opening, a storm on a Saturday night — arrive precisely when a nine-to-five desk is shut.

What they can do that a reseller cannot

  • Look at the call in progress. Not a log from yesterday — the call that is breaking up right now.
  • Change routing on your account while you are on the phone, which is what an emergency diversion actually requires.
  • Act on the network itself — block a destination range mid-attack, reroute a trunk, move capacity.
  • Port and provision numbers directly, rather than waiting in somebody else's queue.

That last point is the one that decides most fraud incidents. When a compromised extension starts placing international calls at three in the morning, the cost of the incident is set by how quickly traffic can be stopped — see hardening a business phone system.

Engineers, and vans that go past Kingston

Not everything is fixable remotely. A dead handset, a switch with no power budget, a gateway for analogue lines, a new office with no data points where the phones need to go — those need somebody on site.

WOCOM's field team covers the island rather than the corporate area, which matters for businesses in Montego Bay, Mandeville, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio that are used to waiting for a technician to make the trip. Equipment goes out the same way — a replacement handset is a delivery, not a shipment from overseas. Equipment rental covers what arrives and how.

What to have ready when you call

Support resolves faster with three things, and most people have none of them to hand:

  • The extension or number affected, not “the phones.”
  • When it started, and whether anything changed that day — a new router, a power cut, an office move.
  • Whether it is everyone or one person. This single answer usually determines whether the fault is in your building or on the network.

The part that is still yours

Being straight about the boundary saves everyone time. The network, the switching, the numbers and the rented equipment are WOCOM's to fix. Your internet connection, your local network and the power in your building are not — and they cause a large share of call quality problems. The network readiness check covers what to test on your side before raising a fault, and the QoS guide covers the setting that fixes most of them.

What the SLA actually promises

WOCOM publishes a 99.999% uptime SLA on its network. Worth being clear about what that covers: the network carrying your calls, not the connection between your office and it. A business that cannot tolerate any interruption pairs the SLA with a second connection and mobile failover — the arrangement set out in the disaster recovery plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is WOCOM support available outside business hours?

Yes — the team runs 24/7, on a local 876 number.

Can support change my call routing for me?

Yes. Routing can be changed on your account while you are on the call, which is what an emergency diversion needs.

Do engineers travel outside Kingston?

Yes. The field team and equipment delivery cover the island, not just the corporate area.

What is not covered by support?

Your internet connection, your internal network and your power. Those sit with you or your ISP, and they cause a large share of call quality complaints.

How fast is a faulty handset replaced?

Rented equipment is replaced rather than repaired, and delivered rather than collected.

Getting in touch

The fastest route is the 876 number on the contact page. If you are weighing providers rather than reporting a fault, the question worth asking any of them is the one at the top of this piece: when it breaks, can the person answering actually change anything?
