How Much Does a Business Phone System Cost in Jamaica?

Written by Everett Kildare · Aug 15, 2026 · 8 min read

A business phone system in Jamaica is priced per user per month, and for most small and medium businesses the headline figure is the smallest part of the decision. What decides the real cost is how many of the surrounding charges exist at all: line rental, call-out fees, maintenance contracts, and the calls you are still paying international rates for.

For the current WOCOM figures, the 2026 Cloud PBX pricing guide has the numbers. This piece is about how to build the comparison so it is honest on both sides.

What you are actually buying

Four things, and it is worth pricing them separately because providers bundle them differently:

  • Users. One per person who needs an extension. This is the main recurring cost.
  • Numbers. Your existing 876 number ports across; additional numbers, toll-free numbers and US or Canadian numbers are each a small monthly charge.
  • Calls. Usually bundled or charged per minute, depending on destination.
  • Handsets. A one-off, and optional — the same extension works from a laptop or mobile app.

The costs that only exist on the traditional side

This is where comparisons usually go wrong, because the traditional bill is familiar enough to be invisible. Four charges belong in the column and are routinely left out:

Line rental. Charged per line per month regardless of use. A business with six lines that never exceeds three simultaneous calls is paying for three lines that exist to be idle.

Maintenance. An annual contract on hardware, which rises as the equipment ages and support gets scarcer.

Call-outs. Every move, add and change. Individually small, and they accumulate.

The equipment itself. Either depreciating on your balance sheet or leased. A cloud system has no equivalent, because the switching sits on the provider's network.

The hidden costs of legacy landlines goes through these in detail, and the landline versus VoIP cost comparison works a full example.

What is included that used to be extra

Three things are worth naming, because they were separate purchases until recently and are now bundled:

  • Video conferencing for every user — no second subscription. Details on the WOCOM Meet page.
  • An AI receptionist allowance, which answers out-of-hours calls and takes messages.
  • Call reporting and recording, rather than a reporting module sold on top.

If you are currently paying a separate video subscription per user, that line often covers a meaningful share of the phone system on its own.

What drives the number up

Three things, in order of how often they matter:

Headcount, obviously, though it is per user rather than per line, so it tracks the business rather than the wiring.

Contact-centre features. Queues, wallboards, supervisor tools and detailed agent reporting are a different product from a business phone system — see the Contact Center page if that is the requirement.

Resilience. A second internet connection for failover is a real monthly cost. For a business that cannot afford to be unreachable it is cheap; for one that can tolerate an hour, it is optional.

The one-off costs

Handsets are the main one, and they are optional. Installation for a straightforward office is usually minimal — handsets arrive configured and connect to the network. Number porting is typically included. Where costs do appear is in cabling for an office that has never had data points where the phones need to go.

How to compare two quotes properly

Put both on the same three-year footing, and make sure the traditional column includes line rental, maintenance and a realistic number of call-outs. Then ask two questions that quotes rarely answer: what does it cost to add a person in month seven, and what does it cost to change the opening hours on a public holiday? On one side those are configuration; on the other they are invoices.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a business phone system cost per user in Jamaica?

Cloud systems are priced per user per month, with numbers charged separately and handsets as an optional one-off. Current WOCOM figures are in the 2026 pricing guide.

Is there an installation fee?

For a straightforward office, usually minimal — handsets arrive pre-configured. Costs arise mainly where new network cabling is needed.

Do I have to buy handsets?

No. The same extension works from a laptop or mobile app, so a business can start without handsets and add them later.

What happens to my existing number?

It ports across and keeps working. There is no need to reprint anything or tell customers a new number.

Is a cloud phone system always cheaper?

Not always in the first year if handsets are bought outright. Over three years it usually is, because line rental, maintenance and call-out fees fall away.

Getting started

Bring your current phone bill and the WOCOM team will build the comparison against it rather than against a generic example. Pricing has the figures, and contact reaches a local 876 team.
